More Than 40 Displaced, Firefighters Injured In Arson At Hollywood Apartment Building
HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — More than 40 people were displaced and a few firefighters were injured Friday after an arson fire scorched an apartment building in Hollywood.
It took more than two hours for Los Angeles fire crews to knock down the blaze, which was first reported around 10:30 a.m. in the basement of the complex in the 5900 block of Barton Avenue.
Three firefighters suffered moderate to minor injuries in the effort.
Flames crept inside the walls and in the attic area of the structure. Firefighters spent part of the night using thermal imaging cameras to look for hotspots in each unit.
Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department told CBS2's Cristy Fajardo that the blaze was intentionally set.
"(We've determined) the cause of the fire to be arson. It is under active investigation. We encourage anyone who saw anything unusual, who have any tips, to contact our arson investigators," he said.
The Red Cross arranged temporary housing for the dozens of renters.
