Missing Boat With 2 Aboard Towed To Long Beach
LONG BEACH (AP) — A boat with two people aboard that went missing overnight off Santa Catalina Island is safe in a Long Beach port.
Sky2 showed a U.S. Coast Guard vessel towing the 26-foot boat Monday morning.
Authorities told the station that 44-year-old Donald Stone of Gardena and a woman were aboard the power boat when it broke down en route from Avalon to Long Beach on Sunday afternoon.
The couple said they broke down, their cell phone ran out of power and they had no radar or no marine radio.
Coast Guard Lt. Ana Thorsson says Stone finally managed to contact authorities but then contact was lost.
A helicopter search found the boat shortly after 4:40 a.m. Monday.
