Mikkel Boedker's OT Goal Pushes Coyotes Past Ducks, 4-3
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mikkel Boedker scored on a breakaway 1:18 into overtime after an atrocious turnover by Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, and the Arizona Coyotes snapped Anaheim's four-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory Monday night.
Rookie forward Max Domi scored twice during a three-goal second period for the Coyotes, who won for just the fourth time in 11 games. Arizona has won twice in Anaheim already this season.
Anders Lindback made 33 saves and Anthony Duclair also scored in the dominant middle period for Arizona.
Boedker ended it after Getzlaf inexplicably left the puck sitting on the Arizona blue line, apparently failing to make a drop pass to Corey Perry.
Sami Vatanen tied it with 8:17 remaining in regulation for the Ducks, who blew a two-goal lead before rallying for a point.
Chris Stewart and Ryan Kesler scored in the opening minutes for the Ducks, who hadn't lost in November after a 1-7-2 October. Frederik Andersen stopped 24 shots, but his teammates struggled during their third game in four nights.
Anaheim scored two goals on its first three shots. After Stewart put the Ducks ahead early, Kesler doubled the lead 66 seconds later with an artful tip of Vatanen's shot. The veteran center hadn't scored a regular-season goal in 17 games since March.
Duclair ended his seven-game scoring drought with his fourth goal in two games against the Ducks. Anaheim's NHL-leading penalty killers allowed just their fifth goal all season, while the Coyotes' NHL-worst power play scored only its seventh goal.
Domi got the sixth and seventh goals of his rookie season 3:55 apart, putting the Coyotes ahead on a sharp-angle shot with 7.4 seconds left in the period. The teenager is excelling against the Coyotes' Pacific Division rivals from Southern California, scoring six points in three games against the Ducks and Los Angeles Kings -- with seven points in 11 games against everybody else.
Vatanen lifted home a pass from Andrew Cogliano to tie it. Anaheim had a two-man advantage for 53 seconds late in the third period, but Lindback came up big during the Coyotes' long penalty-kill.
