Midnight Mission On Skid Row Serves Its Millionth Free Meal Of 2012
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Midnight Mission on Skid Row served its millionth free meal of the year Wednesday to a 65-year-old volunteer.
The lunch, which consisted of barbecue chicken, rice, salad, and bread, was given to Franklin Smith around 1 p.m., according to Mai Lee of the Midnight Mission.
Olden Polynice, formerly of the Los Angeles Clippers, served Smith the landmark meal.
"This is the only place I eat. The food is great," said Smith.
The last time the mission served a million meals in the span of a year was during the Great Depression.
