Metta World Peace Has Lateral Meniscus Tear On Left Knee
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) - The Los Angeles Lakers take another blow to their starting lineup after an MRI revealed that Metta World Peace has a lateral meniscus tear on his left knee.
World Peace injured his knee at the end of the 2nd quarter on a play off the ball, attempting to post up on Warriors' Harrison Barnes before falling to the ground. He had 7 points and 2 steals before leaving the game.
"He said that the back of his knee was bothering him and I told him, 'Well, if it's bothering you, you just can't go out,'" Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said to ESPN after the game.. "He's just really hurting, so that's why we held him (out), but I don't know what that means."
Timetable for his return will vary on the severity of the tear.
"Sorry bout the injury. First ever knee injury," World Peace said on Twitter(but later removed). "Recovery time hopefully is a week and a half ."
World Peace will return to Los Angeles for further evaluation by Dr. Steve Lombardo.
D'Antoni will likely start Jodie Meeks at shooting guard and shift Kobe Bryant to small forward, as he did in the 2nd half of Monday's Warriors game.
