Metro Board Approves Green Construction Policy for Transit Projects
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The MTA board unanimously approved a plan Thursday to make transit construction projects more environmentally friendly.
The new policy requires the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and its contractors to use construction vehicles with technology that reduces diesel emissions.
It also requires operators to turn off construction-related tractors and trucks after they have been idling for more than five minutes.
The policy comes as the MTA, or Metro, prepares to begin heavy construction on a second phase of the Expo Light Rail Line, the Crenshaw/LAX Light Rail, and an extension of the Gold Line to Azusa.
