405 Freeway Near LAX Closes 15 Nights For Metro Light Rail Project
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The San Diego (405) Freeway near Los Angeles International Airport is shut down for 15 nights beginning Monday night so Metro crews can construct a bridge for the Crenshaw/LAX Line light rail.
The full and partial closures take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights from July 31 through Aug. 18. But the freeway is fully open on weekends.
The scheduled closures include:
- Northbound lanes completely closed between Century and La Tijera boulevards overnights Monday through Friday night
- Partial closure of the northbound and southbound high occupancy vehicle lanes and the 1 and 2 lanes from Aug. 7 to Aug. 11
- Southbound lanes fully closed between the La Cienega off-ramp and La Tijera on-ramp Aug. 14 to Aug. 18
The 8.5-mile Crenshaw/LAX Line, set to open in 2019, will connect the South Bay's Green Line and Westside's Expo Line with eight new stations in Crenshaw, Inglewood and Westchester.
