Memorial Grows As Family And Friends Mourn 'Burbank's Angels' Killed In Fiery Crash
BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — A memorial continues to grow as friends and family mourn five young people killed in a fiery crash early Saturday morning, calling them "Burbank's Angels."
The aunt of 19-year-old victim Sugey Cuevas invited KCAL9's Serene Branson into the family home where a shrine is set up in the late teen's memory.
"It's such a tragedy that not just her but all the other families have lost loved ones," she said. "Her favorite quote was 'live life to the fullest and have no regrets'."
The Burbank native was a cosmetology student a few months away from completing her courses, according to her aunt.
"She was very passionate about hair, nails, you name it," she said.
The other four killed have been identified by family and friends as Malak Hariri, Stephen Stoll, Sebastian Forrero and Sameer Navarez.
The sole survivor, 18-year-old Savannah Underwood, is in stable condition according to a hospital spokesperson.
Earlier in the day Underwood tweeted about her lost friends from her hospital bed.
"Sameer, no one ever understood why we were together but we fell madly in love with each other & my life will never be the same without you," one tweet read.
The victims, all friends, ranged in age from 18 to 22-years-old. They left a gathering at 4a.m. Saturday morning and were driving on San Fernando Rd. when the car hit a pillar on a freeway off-ramp.
Officials said speed played a role in the crash. It was unknown if alcohol was also involved.
"All we can do is pray and be there for each other," said Cuevas' aunt.
