Memorial Day Weekend Travel Strong Despite High Gas Prices
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Thousands of Southern Californians hit the road Friday for the Memorial Day weekend, in spite of high gas prices.
According to the Automobile Club of Southern California, a regular gallon of gas in Los Angeles County cost $4.08 Friday.
Officials say 2.6 million people were planning to travel outside the Los Angeles area for the holiday, down slightly from 2010. Travel experts predict that 2.2 million people will drive.
Top destinations for SoCal travelers remain the same as in 2010: Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, the Central Coast and Disneyland.
