Mega Millions Jackpot Swells To $76 Million
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — There were no tickets sold with all six numbers in Friday's drawing of the multi-state Mega Millions lottery and the estimated jackpot for Tuesday's drawing will grow to $76 million.
Tickets with five numbers, but missing the Mega number, were sold at a Chevron station in Greenbrae and a Quik Stop convenience store in Salinas and are each worth $274,356, a California Lottery official announced.
Six other tickets with five numbers, but missing the Mega number were also sold, three in New York and one each in the District of Columbia, Georgia and Kentucky, and are each worth $250,000. California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis.
The numbers drawn Friday evening were 14, 23, 26, 33, 35 and the Mega number was 40.
The drawing was the sixth since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 175,711,536, according to the Mega Millions website. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 40.
The Mega Millions game is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
