Mega Millions Jackpot Swells To $206M
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The folks on your Christmas list will get really nice stuff ... next year ... if you hit the Mega Millions jackpot Tuesday.
The estimated jackpot for that drawing will be $206 million since there were no tickets sold with all six numbers in Friday's drawing of the multi-state Mega Millions lottery.
Five tickets sold in California were among the 31 nationwide that had five numbers, but didn't have the Mega number. The five sold in California are each worth $155,663 while the other 26 are each worth $250,000, a California Lottery official announced. (California law requires most major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis.)
The numbers drawn Friday were 3, 5, 8, 18, 29 and the Mega number was 14. The estimated jackpot was $173 million.
The drawing was the 15th since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 175,711,536, according to the Mega Millions website. Overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 40.
The Mega Millions game is played in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
