Mega Millions Jackpot Swells To $127 Million
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Two California ticket holders matched five of six numbers in Friday's Mega Millions draw and each ticket is worth $410,147.
The estimated jackpot for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing will be $127 million since there were no tickets sold with all six numbers in Friday's drawing of the multi-state game.
The numbers drawn Friday were 16, 29, 48, 52, 54 and the Mega number was 5. The estimated jackpot had been $108 million.
The two California tickets that matched all 5 numbers (without the Mega) were sold at Jax Donuts (122 W. Lincoln Ave. in Anaheim) and Mimi's Donuts (10303 Lakewood Blvd. in Downey). The moral of this story? Eat more donuts!
The drawing was the 11th since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
Mega Millions fever is starting to grip the nation. Any time the jackpot exceeds $100 million, ticket sales spike. Aside from the two tickets in California that came-this-close, pairs of match-5 winners were sold in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Illinois. One each was also sold in Arizona, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana and New York.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 175,711,536, according to the Mega Millions website. Overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 40.
The Mega Millions game is played in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
