Medical Oxygen Tank Explosions Spark Crestline Fire
CRESTLINE (AP) — Firefighters say several oxygen tanks exploded when a Crestline home caught fire and burned down. Sparks damaged neighboring homes, killed some pets and forced evacuation of the neighborhood.
A woman living in the home was hospitalized with smoke inhalation. Fire Protection District Chief Michael Sherman told the Riverside Press-Enterprise it was her medical oxygen tanks that exploded and sent shrapnel flying.
The fire was reported at 12:30 a.m. Thursday on Juniper Lane in the Valley of Enchantment, part of Crestline in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Sherman says recent rain prevented further spread of the blaze.
The cause is under investigation.
