McCain In Newport Beach To Launch Veterans Group
NEWPORT BEACH (AP) — John McCain is visiting Southern California to help launch a veterans group started by two former Camp Pendleton Marines, including his son.
The Arizona senator and Vietnam War veteran will appear at a fundraiser in Newport Beach Saturday to promote HonorVet.org.
The Orange County Register reports the group was created by Jesse Canella and Jim McCain after returning from Iraq in 2008.
HonorVet.org is a social networking site that helps connect veterans to help each other make the transition from being in combat back to civilian life. The site relies on volunteer help from teachers, counselors and financial advisers.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. fundraiser start at $300. The event at the Balboa Bay Club features a meet-and-greet, dinner, dancing, speakers and a live video feed from troops in Afghanistan.
