Mayor Villaraigosa And Eva Longoria Named Obama Campaign Co-Chairs
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and actress Eva Longoria will serve as co-chairs of President Barack Obama's reelection campaign, it was announced Wednesday.
The campaign named 35 national co-chairs, including elected officials, campaign volunteers and a few celebrities.
The Los Angeles Times reports seven Californians were chosen for the posts, including LA's top labor leader.
The campaign also named former White House staffer Kalpen Modi, better known as the actor Kal Penn, as co-chair, along with five campaign volunteers from key battleground states.
The list also includes Obama's two former White House chiefs of staff: Bill Daley, who left the administration earlier this year, and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
The campaign says the co-chairs will advise the campaign on key issues and help mobilize voters.
Longoria has hosted fundraising events for Obama in Los Angeles, and last year participated in a Latino celebrity panel to advise the president on U.S. immigration policy.
