Mayor Garcetti Meets With Higher Education Leaders
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti met with leaders from nine colleges and universities Friday to discuss new partnerships for improving the local economy and addressing the city's current and future challenges.

Representatives from the L.A. Community College District, UCLA, USC, Loyola Marymount, Caltech, Occidental College and the Cal State colleges were present for the discussion, in which the mayor said he hoped to be able to come to the group to address economic development, improving urban planning solutions, and training and retaining talented graduates in the L.A. area.
"Our colleges and universities do a terrific job attracting a stellar talent pool to L.A., and it's my job as mayor to keep those graduates here to start companies and create jobs," Garcetti said.
The mayor said a team from his office plans to work closely with colleges and universities to attract start-up companies to L.A. and retain graduates to the area.
The team also plans to develop science, technology, engineering, arts and math -- or STEAM programs -- at middle and high schools in L.A.
