Mayor Appoints Security Panel After Several KNX 1070 Reports

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Thursday announced creation of the panel, which will examine counterterrorism measures, law enforcement, fire services, emergency management and available resources to enhance safety at the nation's third-busiest airport.

The mayor is responding to security concerns raised earlier this year by KNX news radio and the Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers Association. Questions have been raised about airport police staffing, police communications and whether LAX has become more vulnerable to a terrorist attack.

The Los Angeles Times says the panel includes judges, federal and local law enforcement officials, attorneys, emergency management experts, airport officials, academics, business executives and high-ranking firefighters.
