Mat Latos Set For Dodgers Debut Sunday In Freeway Series Finale

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Newly acquired pitcher Mat Latos will make his Dodgers debut on Sunday, as he takes on the Los Angeles Angels in the final game of a three-game series.

The Dodgers won the first two games behind stellar pitching performances from Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw, and will turn to Latos to try and complete the sweep.

Latos suffered a left knee injury earlier this season that landed him on the disabled list, but since his return, he has a 2.96 ERA in six starts.

In his prior nine starts before the injury, his ERA was 6.12.

The Dodgers enter play on Sunday with a 3.35 team ERA, which is good for fourth in the entire major leagues.

Fans will get their first look at the newest Dodger on Sunday, as they have been wondering if the trade deadline acquisitions of Latos and fellow starting pitcher Alex Wood are enough to send the Dodgers deep into the playoffs.

Alex Wood is scheduled to make his Dodgers debut on Tuesday against the Phillies, as Monday is an off-day for the club.

The Dodgers currently sit two full games ahead the San Francisco Giants for the NL West Division lead, as the Giants take on the Rangers Saturday night.

Cole Hamels will be making his Rangers debut against the Giants, and after play is completed on Saturday the Dodgers will either be 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 games ahead in the NL West.

Other newly acquired relief pitchers Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan have also yet to make their debut.
