Marine Killed In Deputy-Involved Shooting In San Clemente Laid To Rest
SAN CLEMENTE (CBS) — A Camp Pendleton-based Marine, who was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Orange County, has been laid to rest.
Sgt. Manuel Levi Loggins Jr., 31, was buried Friday at a cemetery in his home state of Illinois.
The shooting in early February happened on the grounds of San Clemente High School.
Loggins was shot after authorities say he crashed his sport utility vehicle through a gate and then ignored the deputy's orders.
Loggins' two young daughters were in the backseat.
The deputy later said he opened fire because he feared for the girls' safety.
Loved ones say Loggins was a calm, religious, family man and don't understand how he could be capable of provoking deadly police gunfire, KNX 1070's Brian Ping reported.
