Maria Shriver To Kick Off Annual Women's Conference
LONG BEACH (CBS) — California First Lady Maria Shriver is expected to kick off the annual Women's Conference Sunday with a March on Alzheimer's and candlelight vigil in Long Beach.
The three-day event is expected to draw 30,000 attendees to the Long Beach Convention Center.
Oprah Winfrey, first lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden are among the more than 140 speakers scheduled to participate during the conference.
On Sunday, the inaugural "A Night at the Theater" event will feature a live performance of "Love, Loss, and What I Wore," written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron based on the book by Ilene Beckerman.
Shriver will host "A Day of Health, Wellness & Transformation" from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. The event, featuring more than 20 issue experts, will include interactive sessions on how to become "architects of change."
More than 70 world opinion leaders and an expected 14,000 attendees will gather on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the conference's main event.
The mission of the California Governor & First Lady's Conference on Women is to create Architects of Change - people from all walks of life who see a problem and seek to create the solution, be it in their home, their community, their state or our world.
Proceeds benefit the organization's WE Programs.
