Man's Ashes Left Behind At Ocean Beach Car Wash

OCEAN BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The ashes of a man who was cremated 17 years ago was left behind at a car wash in Ocean Beach.

KNX 1070's Tom Reopelle reported the owner of OB Suds said she found the metal box on Monday, but the bizarre discovery had actually been there for six months.

The box contains the ashes of Henry Lefebvre, who was born in Arizona and cremated in Santa Ana in 1995.

Lefebvre's ashes have been turned over to the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association, which is a local merchants organization.

Spokeswoman Denny Knox said the box is in her possession.

"We'd love to return him to his loved ones. We're sorry that they misplaced him, but we're taking really good care of him," she said. "He's enjoying being in our office. He's had lots of attention."

Reopelle said that since Lefebvre was cremated, there have been no records of any of his relatives.
