Manhunt underway in Claremont following stabbing
A manhunt is in progress as Claremont police search for an attempted homicide suspect accused of stabbing a man in broad daylight over the weekend.
"It does concern me because I live right up the street," said Jose, a Claremont resident. "I'm at work, I'm thinking is my house gonna get broken into?"
The incident took place in a grassy area near the Metrolink train station at 4 p.m. on Sunday. It left the victim recovering from a stab wound to his ribcage
The suspect has been identified by police as 41-year-old Phillip Borunda, known to Claremont law enforcement for a string of previous arrests, primarily related to drug and burglary offenses.
Borunda was out of jail while awaiting arraignment on arson charges when the stabbing occurred.
Investigators describe him as a transient who frequently moves between Claremont and Pomona.
"If you do see him, call local law enforcement. Stay away from him. He is considered armed and dangerous," said Sergeant Jeff TIng of the Claremont Police Department.
Police have issued a warrant for Borunda's arrest on charges of attempted homicide.
