Manhattan Beach Teen Who Struck His Head On 405 Overpass Dies

EL SEGUNDO (CBSLA.com) — The 16-year-old Manhattan Beach boy who struck his head Thursday night on a 405 Freeway overpass while reportedly standing on a double-decker tour bus has died.

The injured boy was among a group of South Bay youths celebrating another passenger's birthday on the chartered Starline Tours bus, according to Gabe Stroman, a Mira Costa High School student who said he was close by when the accident occurred, but did not see it happen.

"I heard a scream and looked up and he was down," said Stroman, 17. "We all ran over to him."

The bus, which does not typically travel on freeways, was going under the Arbor Vitae Street overpass when the accident occurred, authorities said.

Stroman said he and other passengers took the injured boy to the bottom deck after the accident, and paramedics treated him there before he was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

On Saturday evening, officials reported that Mason Zisette had died about 5:25 p.m.

Zisette was a tennis player at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach.
