Man Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A man has been wounded following an officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana.

The suspect, identified by Santa Ana police as Ignacio Leon Jr., is in serious but stable condition Sunday after being shot in the upper torso.

Police say officers responded to the 500 block of East Washington Avenue just after midnight following some kind of disruption.

Upon arriving on scene, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna says the suspect took off running.

"The suspect runs through the large lot towards the rear of being pursued by officers," Bertagna said. "When he gets to the back… he turns around. He faces the officers, reaches in his waistband and that's when the officer-involved shooting occurs."

KNX 1070 reports that the suspect jumped a fence after being shot.

He was caught soon after and taken to a hospital.

A weapon has not yet been recovered at the scene but police say they do believe the suspect was armed.
