Man Wounded In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Compton
COMPTON (CBS) — A deputy-involved shooting in Compton has left one man hospitalized and resulted in a second man being taken into custody.
Lt. Kim Unland of Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said deputies were on patrol near 144th Street about 12:20 a.m. when they heard gunfire west of Central Avenue and went to investigate.
Upon arrival, deputies spotted two men who began to flee the area, Unland said, adding that deputies chased them.
At some point, one of the men pointed a pistol toward the deputies, prompting at least one deputy to open fire, authorities said.
One of the men was struck in the arm and the second was taken into custody.
A gun was seized at the scene, Unland said.
The identities of those involved was not released.
An investigation is under way.
