Young Parents Shot Dead In Pomona

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A man and woman were discovered shot to death in a crashed Toyota Camry in Pomona Friday morning.

The Pomona Police Department reports the victims were found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle that crashed into the front yard of a neighbor's home in the 2200 block of Larchmont Street before 11:05 a.m.

Los Angeles County firefighters attempted live-saving measures, but the two were declared dead at the scene.

The victims were described as a black couple between 25 and 30 years of age.

KCAL9's Tom Wait said the victims were parents of three young children.  including a 6-month-old.

He spoke to friends of the couple Friday evening.

Friends said the female victim was Corin Hensley. Police identified her as 25-year-old Michella Hensley.

"She has a 6-month-old. I don't know about the other two. But I do know that they're all babies. I do know she just moved in the neighborhood. She was a great mom," said one friend.

She added, "A lot of people loved her, a lot of people knew her."

It's not clear what led up to the shooting. The couple was reportedly on their way to pick up one of their children at the time of the shooting.

Neighbors say there is a lot of gang activity in the area. Police late Friday said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

It was unclear if the man, now identified as LaVelle Brown, 34, was the target and she got caught in the crossfire.

Compounding this tragic loss -- a  horrific murder from Christmas day 2015. Friends say it was Hensely's mother who was killed -- burned to death at the hands of Hensley's father.

The suspect in today's killings is at large, police said.
