Irvine police received a 911 call around 9:10 p.m. Sunday about someone slumped over inside a car parked on the roof of a parking structure located at 2100 Scholarship, officials said.

When officers arrived, they discovered the man and woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds, KNX 1070's John Brooks reports.

The victims have been identified as Keith Lawrence, 27, and his fiancee, 28-year-old Monica Quan, Lt. Julia Engen said.

Quan worked as the assistant coach for the Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team.

"The loss of any member of the Titan family causes our community great grief, but the loss of one of our own under these circumstances is indeed tragic and heart wrenching," said CSUF President Mildred García.

"They were found inside Lawrence's vehicle, parked at the top of the residential parking structure of their Irvine residence," she said.

Lawrence was hired in August as an armed officer at USC. The couple met while they were students at Concordia College in Irvine, where Lawrence and Quan were basketball standouts.

Keith Lawrence's father Kevin remembered his son as someone "who stayed out of trouble, always tried to do the right thing and help people."

"He made me proud just by being who he was," said Keith.

Police said they are investigating the case as a homicide, but no suspects have been named so far.
