Man Sustains Only Road Rash After Motorcycle Flies Hundreds Of Feet In The Air
LAGUNA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A motorcyclist sustained only minor injuries after flying hundreds of feet in the air in a violent crash in Laguna Beach.
"He was just moving in and out of traffic and my thought was, 'Oh my God, that guy wants to die,' " said Dr. Michele McCormick.
Minutes before police say the motorcyclist crashed into a car from behind and had flown hundreds of feet in the air, McCormick says she had watched the motorcyclist weave in and out of traffic at PCH in
Laguna Beach at 90 mph.
Footage captured the violent crash.
"It was like a scene from a Star Wars video game," she said.
Then, she says, she saw the crash.
"I thought, 'Oh my God, it's the guy,' " she said.
McCormick got out to help him.
"It was like a yard sale, his gloves, everything was just everywhere," she said.
She said the man was in and out of consciousness. She helped him stay awake until an ambulance arrived.
Lynsey Davey, the owner of a motorcycle repair shop, also happened to be driving past the scene.
"Based on the condition of the motorcycle I was pretty certain that he was dead," Davey said.
But police say the 26-year-old rider from San Juan Capistrano wearing protective gear suffered only road rash.
"I don't know how he's not … not gone," said McCormick. "It's a miracle. It feels like a miracle."
The man was transported to Mission Hospital by ambulance. It's unclear if he's still being treated there.
Police have not released his name as an investigation is ongoing.
