Man Suspected Of Sexually Assaulting Lancaster Girl Nabbed In South Carolina

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A man suspected of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Lancaster was arrested in Greenville, S.C. Thursday after he alerted authorities to his whereabouts.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department identified Charles James, 30, as a suspect in an attack that took place Dec. 13 as the victim was walking to school. Five felony counts were filed against James in Los Angeles that same day and his photo was released to news media outlets.

A ninth grader noticed the suspect was following her on the 2000 block of East Avenue J-8. He then dragged the girl into some bushes where he sexually assaulted her repeatedly, Detective Brian Hudson said.

The Sheriff's Department released a photo of James to the public Wednesday and asked for the public's help in finding him.

James was arrested early Thursday at a home on Emile Street, where he said he was vacationing with family. He was being held in the Greenville County Detention Center without bail, awaiting extradition.
