Man stabbed to death while inside his car on lunch break, LA County sheriff says
Los Angeles County authorities arrested a man suspected of stabbing another man to death while the victim was sitting inside his car during his lunch break, authorities said Wednesday.
Manuel Covarrubias was suffering from multiple stab wounds to his head and neck when deputies arrived to the scene in the 1800 block of Avenue I in Lancaster on March 12, according to the LA County Sheriff's Department. They responded at about 8:13 a.m. and performed life-saving measures on Covarrubias until paramedics arrived, sheriff's officials said.
He was later taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.
Ruben Rosario, a 23-year-old resident of Lancaster, has been arrested as the suspect in Covarrubias's killing. The department announced his arrest Wednesday in a statement which said the deadly attack happened "suddenly" and "without provocation."
Authorities said Rosario fled the scene in a vehicle which investigators later identified as belonging to the suspect in the homicide.
On Friday, a Lancaster sheriff's deputy spotted the vehicle and performed a traffic stop which led to Rosario being detained and later arrested on suspicion of killing Covarrubias, according to sheriff's officials. The department said homicide detectives presented the case to the LA County District Attorney's Office which led to the filing of charges Wednesday.
The DA's office has not confirmed the murder charge sheriff's officials said has been filed.
No information about a possible motive or any other circumstances in the case has been released by sheriff's officials, who said no further details are being shared to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
