Evidence Points To Gun Battle Outside Movie Theater
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) — Evidence and witness statements conflicted Thursday as police continued to investigate a shooting outside a North Hollywood movie theater.
The shooting happened just about 11:15 p.m. at the Cinemark Theatre near Victory and Coldwater Canyon Ave., according to Los Angeles police.
The victim told police a man with a gun demanded cash from him, but when he said he had none, the robber took out a gun and shot him. He was shot in the hand and in the abdomen, and police say he is now in stable condition.
But evidence at the scene is telling a slightly different story. Police say they found casings from two different guns and two separate trails of blood. It's not clear whether there were two gunmen, or if the victim fired back. At least one witness told police they though they saw the victim shooting too, but officers did not find a gun on him.
The number of bullet holes scattered through the scene -- one in the window of a nearby business, two into different cars, including one that was in the drive-thru of the nearby Burger King, and a fourth in the fast food restaurant's sign -- point to a gun battle.
A man and his daughter were inside the vehicle in the drive-thru that was hit by a bullet, but neither of them were hurt.
Bloody clothes and dress shoes were left at the scene. Police say the man was expected to survive his wounds.
Police are looking at surveillance video of the area to try and pin down exactly what happened.
