Man Dies After Being Shot Police Investigating Killing Of Mother's Fiancé In Sylmar
SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — A man police say killed his mother's fiancé Monday was shot and wounded by officers and later died.
The shooting happened about 10:40 a.m. in the 13600 block of Gavina Avenue, where police were sent to investigate reports of a domestic disturbance, Los Angeles police Officer Tony Im said.
The 29-year-old suspect reportedly stabbed his father's fiance inside the house and was seen going outside covered in blood. When officers arrived, they ordered the suspect to put down his knives. When the suspect refused and charged the officers, they opened fire, eyewitnesses said.
"It was almost like suicide by cop, because he wasn't stopping and they opened fire eventually," neighbor Tom Kromher said. "He eventually went down to his knees and he kept screaming, 'screw you' and he probably crawled 15 feet and the officers were still firing, trying to get him to stop. And after he did stop, it took them a long time for them to just subdue him because he would not put the knife down."
The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died Monday evening.
The names of the suspect and the victim were not immediately released.
No officers were injured, Im said.
