Man Poses As Neighbor Before Tying Up Woman In Van Nuys Home Invasion Robbery
VAN NUYS (CBS) — Police say a man posed as a kindly neighbor before returning the following day to tie up and rob a Van Nuys woman in her home.
The thief is at-large, according to authorities.
The home invasion occurred in the 4400 block of Sylmar Avenue on Tuesday about 2:50 p.m., said Detective Glenn O'Shea of the Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys Division.
The victim says the same man showed up at her door on Monday. He told her he was a neighbor and had thrown a Frisbee into her back yard, O'Shea said. On that occasion, she gave him access to the yard, and he told her he had no luck in his search.
When he came back the next day, he forced his way inside when she opened the door, O'Shea said. The suspect was armed with a sharp instrument and tied up the victim, then took property and fled on foot, the detective said.
The man was described as being about 30 years old and possibly of Greek descent, standing 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes, and was wearing a brown shirt and light colored pants.
