2 Men Die In Separate Boating Accidents
LAKE ELSINORE and SAN PEDRO (CBS/AP) — Authorities say a man is missing and presumed dead after a boat his boat capsized on Lake Elsinore and another man died after the recreational boat he was riding sank near Dana Point Sunday evening.
Riverside County sheriff's Cpl. Courtney Donowho says the missing man was on the lake with his wife and two adult children Sunday afternoon when their small fishing boat began taking on water.
Donowho tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise that they tried to get the boat to shore, but it flipped over.
People from another boat rescued the other three family members, but could not find the man.
Dozens of sheriff's deputies and others searched the water using helicopters and diving gear, but they also could not find the man.
Another man died in a boating accident near San Pedro late Sunday.
Rescue teams saved four boaters after their recreational boat sank near Dana Point at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Crews from the Coast Guard, Orange County Sheriff's Department and Orange County Fire Authority helped get the two men and two women out of the water.
Mark Benet, 46, was transported to MIssion Hospital Laguna Beach in grave condition and died soon after.
