Man Makes Bomb Threat In Loma Linda Medical Center E.R.
REDLANDS (CBS) — A suspicious device prompted the lockdown of Loma Linda University Medical Center Thursday morning, officials said.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies and members of the bomb squad were sent to the hospital around 9:18 a.m.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said a Hispanic man in his 50s came into the emergency room and told a nurse he had a bomb strapped to himself.
Deputies removed him from the emergency room to a concrete enclosed parking area, she added.
Greg Mills, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said X-rays proved the device the man had was not explosive. Evacuees were eventually allowed back in the hospital ER and surrounding buildings on the LLUMC campus around 11 a.m.
The man was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
