Man Leads Police On Chase In Stolen Produce Truck In Orange County
COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — An Irvine man was arrested Wednesday after leading police on a chase in a stolen produce truck in Orange County.
Christopher Cecill, 26, was accused of stealing the truck from Rigoberto Delgadillo on the Balboa Peninsula.
"I guess he was behind me watching as I left to do the delivery, he got the truck. When I came out, my truck wasn't there," Delgadillo said.
The delivery driver said he should not have left his key in the ignition - something he said he will never do again.
Officers pursued the truck for a mile or two before the driver slammed into five cars and a van on 22nd Street in Costa Mesa.
Among the wreckage was a silver two-door Mercedes owned by Yuki Sammons. "When I hear the bump, I just knew it was my car. So I just run, run. And then, all I saw was all the smoke everywhere," she said.
After leaving a trail of destruction, Cecill tried to get away by running into a backyard, said police, who used a stun gun to stop him.
CBS2/KCAL9's Michele Gile reported the Irvine man was cited earlier for having an open container.
