Man, 31, Killed In Overnight Shooting Outside Well-Known Bar In Orange

ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man has been killed in an overnight shooting in the city of Orange.

Orange Police Department Lt. Dave Nichols says the shooting occurred outside the Second Base Bar and Grill in the 1500 block of West Chapman Avenue around 12:05 a.m. Saturday.

The Second Base Bar and Grill was featured in the 2012 Spike-TV reality show "Bar Rescue."

The lieutenant said the victim died at the scene. The suspect fled in a SUV before police arrived.

KCAL9's Brittney Hopper said police are giving out few details of the crime.

The victim's family told her the deceased leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter.

"I ran over here when they told me [about the shooting]," said Norma Velasquez, the victim's aunt. "I just can't believe it."

The victim, an Orange native, was 31. Family declined to name the man but insisted he was well-liked and known in the community.

"My nephew was a family man, family was everything to him," said Velasquez, "He always wanted us to get together and have a good time."

Police say the victim was with friends when a fight broke out in an enclosed parking lot prior to the shooting.

Velasquez said she had no idea why someone would want to kill her nephew -- a good man and a good father.

"I would just love some answers," said Velasquez, "I would love some answers to what happened."
