Man Killed In Officer-Involved Shooting In Van Nuys After Patrol Car Window Shatters
VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com/AP) — Los Angeles police say officers shot a man to death after the rear window of their patrol car suddenly shattered at a stoplight.
Officer Mike Lopez says the two officers were stopped at a Van Nuys intersection late Saturday when the window crashed in.
Lopez says both officers exited the car and opened fire at a suspect, described as a man in his 30s.
Police said it's possible the officers thought they were being fired upon and opened fire.
The man died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that investigators are working to determine what caused the window in the patrol car to break.
Neither of the officers was injured.
It remains unclear if the suspect was armed.
