Man Killed By Suspected DUI In Temecula
TEMECULA (CBS) — Officials say one man was killed Sunday morning by an apparent drunk driver in Temecula.
The two-car crash happened at about 5:20 a.m. at the traffic signal at Rancho California and Moraga roads, said sheriff's Sgt. Jim Larson.
The victim was traveling westbound on Rancho California Road approaching Moraga, and the second vehicle was traveling eastbound on the same road, Larson said. "As both vehicles entered the intersection, they collided, causing the driver to swerve into a brick wall at the intersection."
Both of the drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by firefighters, said Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.
Rescue personnel treated the drivers and took them to area hospitals by ambulance. One of them was pronounced dead at 6:27 a.m., Larson said.
The other motorist was seriously injured, Hagemann said.
"At this time of the investigation, the driver of the second vehicle is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, but the investigation is continuing," Larson said.
