Man Killed, 2 Women Hospitalized After Car Slams Into La Mirada Tree
LA MIRADA (CBSLA.com) — A man was killed and two women were seriously injured when a speeding car hit a center divider, knocked down a sign and slammed into a tree in La Mirada, authorities said Friday.
The crash happened at about 11:40 p.m. Thursday, on Valley View Avenue, just north of Artesia Boulevard on the border between La Mirada and Cerritos, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Hank Ortega said.
"Speed was a factor," Ortega said. "The car hit the divider, took out a sign and hit a tree."
Ortega said the man in his 30s who died at the scene was a passenger in the car. His identity was withheld pending notification of kin.
Two women in the car – one of them the driver – were hospitalized in serious condition, Ortega said.
Investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
