Man Kidnaps Girl From Home, Dumps Her Nearby

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Police on Sunday searched for a man they say brazenly broke into a home and carried away a sleeping 9-year-old girl, later abandoning her in a residential neighborhood.

Police Lt. Ed Blevins said officers found the girl, who appeared disoriented, going door-to-door shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. She told police a man she didn't know had come into her home and carried her away as she slept. She said he later dumped her out of his car in another part of Riverside.

The girl was hospitalized in serious condition with injuries suffered during her abduction, Blevins said. He declined to describe the nature of the injuries or say how she was hurt.

Police said the girl and her two siblings were sleeping when someone entered their home through an unlocked window and carried her away. She and the other children live with their mother, who was not home at the time.

Anyone with any information about the abduction was urged to contact the Riverside Police Department. Authorities have not released a sketch of the suspect.
