PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man was fatally shot Saturday evening outside a park in Perris.

Dispatchers received a "shots fired" call from someone just before 11:45 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies found a man with a gunshot wound in the 1800 block of Cherrytree Drive, near Copper Creek Park.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Raymond Huskey said.

Sunday evening the victim was identified as 27-year-old Abraham Mendoza, a Perris resident. Authorities also announced the arrest of Hilario "Larry" Esquivel, a 46-year-old Mead Valley man, as the suspect in the murder.

Deputies asked anyone with information to call the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 210-1000.
