20-Something Man Fatally Shot In North Hills
NORTH HILLS (CBSLA) — A young 20-something man was shot and killed in North Hills Friday evening.
The shooting happened around 7 p.m. at Chase Street and Orion Avenue, authorities said.
LAPD and L.A. City Fire were on scene following the shooting.
When paramedics arrived there was "nothing they could do for him," reported CBS2/KCAL9's Sara Donchey.
The unidentified victim was declared dead at the scene. He was found dead in the middle of the street.
It was not immediately clear what led up to the shooting and authorities told Donchey they had a bit of a mystery on their hands.
The victim wasn't carrying ID, he was not associated with the home or neighborhood where he was shot.
The victim -- described as a Latino in his early 20s -- was shot multiple times.
Authorities said they had no witnesses to the shooting nor has any family come by to identify the deceased.
Resident Jaime Andrade said, "We have two years living here. And this is the first time [anything like this has happened] and this is close. And I've never seen nothing like this. I feel sorry for the guy."
Lt. Mike Kozak wasn't sure what the LAPD was dealing with.
"It could be a drug deal gone bad," he said, "it could be some gang-related information. I don't want to speculate. Because we can think it's a lot of different things. But obviously it's a very tragic incident. We have a young man dead -- laying in the street behind us."
Detectives were combing the area for possible surveillance video that can help them piece together what happened. Officials said they were also waiting for the coroner to come and positively identify the victim.
