Man Electrocuted At OC High School Leaves Behind Young Wife, Baby Son
APPLE VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — The tragic electrocution Thursday of a 23-year-old man might be even more tragic given the fact Daniel James Pohl leaves behind a young wife and 6-month-old baby.
Pohl, who was unemployed for the past six months, was ecstatic to find the construction job he'd only been holding down for three weeks at the time of his death.
KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold sat down with Pohl's devastated widow, 21-year-old Britney Heintz Pohl.
Looking over pictures of her late husband -- her soul mate -- she is almost overwhelmed.
"Everyone says time heals everything but for him, he'll always have a piece missing," Britney said.
She is trying her best to adjust to life without her husband.
"I just don't know how you'll ever find someone after and you'll let someone take care of your kid," she said.
Daniel was electrocuted while hanging a banner for an upcoming football game at Mission Viejo High School. Another co-worker was badly burned. Both had come in contact with power lines.
Even when he wasn't working, Britney said her husband was a giver.
"He would give the shirt off his back, he would do anything and everything for anyone, even when he had nothing," she said.
Now Britney says she doesn't know how she's going to make ends meet without her husband -- she's a sales associate at Walmart. She was counting on her husband's new job to help support their new son, Levi James.
"I mean, you just still want to believe it's not real and that it didn't really happen even though you know it did," she says.
The Pohls met in high school and the two started dating a couple of years after graduation. They were married just six months later.
They were building a life together with Levi in Apple Valley.
It's sunk in, that sadly, Levi will never get the chance to know his father.
"No one will ever be his dad and it's not fair," she said.
Britney is planning a funeral for Daniel Wednesday (High Desert Church in Hesperia, 3 p.m.) She's asking anyone who knew Daniel to write a letter to her son telling them about his father.
Friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help Britney with expenses.
