Man Dies Following Crash Into CHP Patrol Car In Palmdale
PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — A man died Thursday at a hospital after the Ford Taurus sedan he had been driving crashed into a California Highway Patrol car in the Palmdale area, authorities said.
The crash was reported just before 7 a.m. at 50th Street East and Avenue P, CHP Officer Gil Hernandez said.
A CHP officer, who had pulled over the driver of a 2005 Toyota Camry on southbound 50th Street East, was outside his patrol car writing a ticket when he heard "screeching tires" and saw the Taurus heading southbound toward the rear of his stopped vehicle, Hernandez said.
The Taurus hit the rear of the patrol car, pushing it forward toward the officer. The officer tried to jump out of the way, but was struck and suffered minor injuries, Hernandez said.
The patrol car was then pushed into the Camry, slightly injuring the driver, Hernandez said.
The name of the fatally injured man was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
