Man Critically Injured In Venice Beach Lightning Strike Is 'Making A Good Recovery'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The man who was critically injured by a lightning strike over the weekend was "making a good recovery" Tuesday, according to an official.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe said the 55-year-old lifeguard was recovering at UCLA Medical Center where he was transported after lightning struck Venice Beach around 2:15 p.m. Sunday.

The injured man was one of eight people transported to local hospitals. Nick Fagnano, 20, succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The six others, including a 15-year-old boy, were listed in fair condition.

The lightning strike also caused a power outage in the area.

A prayer vigil to remember Fagnano has been scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church in North Hollywood.
