Man Convicted Of Child Sex Crimes Sentenced To 80 Years To Life
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A man convicted of abusing two children received a sentence Tuesday of 80 years to life in prison.
On May 8, 33-year-old Roberto Edgar Torres of El Monte was convicted of multiple sex abuse charges, including two counts each of unlawful sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child 10 or under, among others.
According to the District Attorney's Office, the female victim was seven years old at the time. The male victim was seven or eight, and is now an adult.
The crimes took place between January 1997 and March 2009.
Charges were filed in May 2009, but Torres fled to Mexico during the investigation. He was extradited in March 2012.
