Man Convicted Of Battery At Lakers' 2010 NBA Victory
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A man arrested during a scuffle that broke out after the Los Angeles Lakers' 2010 NBA championship win last June pleaded no contest to battery on a peace officer, the City Attorney's office announced Thursday.
Superior Court Judge Robert Vanderet ordered 19-year-old Arthur Duran to serve 45 days in jail or 30 days of Caltrans work following his plea Monday to the misdemeanor count.
The Los Angeles-area resident also was ordered to stay away from the Staples Center and the area surrounding Pico and Figueroa boulevards for two years.
Duran was seen throwing a plastic water bottle at Los Angeles police following the Lakers' victory last June and swung at an officer as police tried to arrest him, according to the City Attorney's Office. He was one of at least 45 people arrested during the melee.
The City Attorney's Office has successfully prosecuted 14 people on charges that include inciting a riot, disturbing the peace, vandalism, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
