Man Convicted In The Beating Death Of His Girlfriend's 2-Year-Old Son
LONG BEACH (CBS) — Today, a man was convicted of two felony counts stemming from the beating death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.
Jurors acquitted Hector Ernest, 27, of a murder charge but found him guilty of one count each of assault on a child causing death and child abuse of Deandre Green, who died on March 20, 2010, from blunt force trauma to the abdomen. The Long Beach Superior Court panel deliberated just over a day.
According to the District Attorney's Office, Ernest faces 31 years to life in state prison. Sentencing is set for May 4 in Long Beach Superior Court.
The boy's mother, Cameo Green, 23, pleaded guilty March 11 to one felony count of child abuse and was sentenced to six years in state prison.
