Boyfriend Charged With Murder In Death Of Woman On 210 Freeway
SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — A North Hollywood man was charged with murder Tuesday in the death of a woman who fell out of a car onto the 210 Freeway and was struck by multiple vehicles.
Marie "Josie" Jimenez's was allegedly seated on the passenger's side of her red Toyota Corolla on the eastbound lanes of the freeway about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when police say she inexplicably tumbled onto the busy roadway and was fatally struck by oncoming traffic.
Police say 26-year-old Rick Jimenez turned himself into the Glendale Police Department Saturday morning, a day after police announced he was a "person of interest" in connection with the 22-year-old's death. He is being held on $1 million bail.
The charge alleges a knife was used in the murder. An official cause of death has not been released pending additional tests, according to the Coroner's Office.
Police said blood was found on the passenger side of the victim's vehicle, which was found abandoned in the Foothill area.
Los Angeles police said witnesses reported seeing the two, who were reportedly dating, at a Sylmar tattoo parlor prior to the murder.
The suspect was "causing a disturbance and berating Josie in front of others," said LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon.
Lt. Vernon said police confirmed that Jimenez was driving the victim's car when the couple left the tattoo parlor.
Police said the victim's estranged husband, who reported her missing, was not believed to be involved in her death.
Jimenez is due back in court for his arraignment Sept. 23.
